The 7th Convocation of the University of Central Punjab (UCP) was held on April 8, 2009, at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore. The Degrees to the graduating students were conferred by Mian Amer Mahmood, Chairman Board of Governors, on behalf of the Governor, Punjab, Mr. Salman Taseer. 887 students of Management Studies, Information Technology, Commerce and Engineering were awarded the Degrees.
Dr. Fehmida Sultana, the Pro Rector, gave a brief overview of the achievements of the University during the past one year and to a huge applause, informed the audience about the shifting of UCP to the new campus which is fast coming up in the suburbs of Lahore. She highlighted the policy of the UCP, saying that the function of a university is not just to teach but to educate the students. She also said that, in line with the vision of Chairman Board of Governors, Mian Amer Mahmood, Volunteers In Service (VIS) program has been launched and each student renders 64 hours of mandatory community service before graduation, in association with credible and reputed NGOs like SoS Village, Akhwat, etc. She also stated that the University has developed partnerships with high ranking universities in the United States and Europe including Hertfordshire and Wollverhampton.
In all, 63 students were awarded prizes for outstanding academic performance. This includes three students whose names were inscribed on the Rolls of Honour.
