For computers or PDAs that do not have built-in wireless capability, ITS recommends that our wireless users purchase Linksys brand wireless devices. http://www.linksys.com

All desktop users are recommended to purchase either the Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter (WUSB54GP) or the Wireless-G Portable USB Adapter (WUSB54G). All desktop users wanting to connect to our wireless network are strongly recommended to AVOID installing internal PCI wireless cards. The USB adapters allow much more flexibility, more ease of connectivity, and they function better on our wireless network.  They are also usually less expensive than the internal cards. We recommend that all wireless users purchase 802.11G devices at this time. We will be upgrading to an 802.11G network soon and these devices usually have stronger software and security components.

We strongly DISCOURAGE the purchase of D-link wireless devices of any kind. It is our experience that these devices have inferior antennas and therefore do not work very well on our wireless network. We discourage the purchase of any Linksys 802.11B device. The software on the 802.11B devices is very poor compared to their 802.11G offerings
