Dr. Mahmood Ahmad

Mahmood Ahmad, RPh, PhD is working as Professor in Pharmacy (January 2019 to date) as well as Director ORIC, University of Central Punjab, Lahore. Before joining UCP, he was working as Professor and Dean Faculty of Pharmacy and Alternative Medicine, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. In addition at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur he has also performed his duties as Director, Board of Advance Studies & Research (BASAR), Chairman Hall Council, Director Student Affairs, Chairman Medical Committee, Chairman Affiliation Committee, Member, Finance and Planning Committee, Member, Syndicate and remain Acting Vice Chancellor many times.

Professor Ahmad, earned distinction and won scholarships throughout his academic career. A number of prestigious awards and honors including “Best University Teacher Award” for the year 2009 by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (Awarded in December 1st 2010), Certificate of Appreciation and Cash Award by the Vice Chancellor, for exceptional performance & results by the recipient in challenging and difficult circumstances at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Awarded in March 2010), Research Productivity Award by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology and Gold Medal in Medical Sciences awarded by Pakistan Academy of Sciences in the year 2014 are on his credit.

Professor Ahmad had completed various National and International research projects including a project sponsored by World Health Organization (UD 12,000) in which drug utilization processes were evaluated to report the drug policies implementation and its merits & demerits, a project entitled “Strengthening of Lab. Facilities at the College of Conventional Medicine by setting up Herbal-Analytical and Histopathology Laboratories” approved by Higher Education Commission amounting Rs. 37.400 million and a project entitled Preparation of oral formulation of anticancer agents for targeted treatment of colon cancer; Characterization and Preclinical Evaluation” (Project No. 6286, 2016-2017) approved by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan amounting Rs. 4.686 million (in progress).

Professor Ahmad has also published various books and book chapter including Pharmaceutical Management and marketing, published in Pakistan,  Pharmacokinetics and Bioavailability of Silymarin, Sustained release formulation development by microencapsulation, Hepatoprotective Potential of Selected Desert Flora of Pakistan, In Vitro In Vivo correlation (IVIVC) for poorly soluble drugs: IVIVC modeling and biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS), Antidiabetic activity of Medicinal plants from Cholistan Desert, Bioavailability and Disposition Kinetics of Atorvastatin (In vivo studies of Atorvastatin in Humans). Published by Lap Lambert Publishing, Germany and Pharmaceutical Policy in Pakistan Chapter 3 page No. 25-44 in Pharmaceutical Policy in Countries with Developing Healthcare Systems Published by Springer Link.

Until now 29 PhD and eighty six MPhil degrees have been awarded to the candidates under the supervision of Professor Ahmad and seven PhD research scholars are currently doing research under his supervision. He is author of more than 230 research and review articles published in peer reviewed national and international journals of good repute with impact factor of more than 170. Professor Ahmad has presented his research as podium as well as poster presentation in more than 42 national and international conferences in Pakistan and overseas. As the administrative experience is concerned, Professor Ahmad was member, Board of Studies of various national universities, Punjab Pharmacy Council, Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, Committee of Experts on Drug Research, Drugs Appellate Board (Ministry of Health Govt. of Pakistan), Member Drug Court, Member Provincial Quality Control Board, Member/Secretary National Curriculum Revision Committee of HEC, Member National Council for Homoeopathy and Chairman Examining Body of NCH. He remains Chairman, Department of Pharmacy and Principal, University College of Conventional Medicine of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
