The Psychology Society, University of Central Punjab, organized Mental Health Week from18th March, 2019 – 21st March, 2019. The theme of the Mental Health Week was “Forensic Psychology”.
On the first day of the Mental Health Week, the Psychology Society of UCP arranged a panel discussion based on the theme. The panel consisted of high scholarly and erudite members including Mr. Ch. Ghulam Murtaza (District and Session Judge), Mr. Ayub Abid (Crime scene expert in Forensic Lab), Ms. Saira Kanjoo (Psychologist at Punjab Police Training Centre), Mr. Rana Abdul Sattar (Advocate, Lahore High Court) and Mr. Awais Gujjar (Police Officer). It was a successful event as the panelists elaborated the facts with their expertise, shared personal experiences and gave a depiction about how criminal cases are being handled in court by the judge and advocate, role of a police officer and an expert of the forensic lab in such respected cases. Furthermore, the significance of a psychologist and their job in the choice with respect to the criminal cases was a piece of the talk. Towards the end, a Question and Answer session was held.
The second day of the Mental Health Week consisted of the Quiz and Poster Competition. It was an intervarsity competition based on the theme of “Forensic Psychology”. Many renowned universities including Comsats, UMT, GCU, BNU, Kinnaird College, Lahore College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (LCPS) and Riphah University participated in the Quiz and Poster Competition. The posters were portrayed outside the UCP Auditorium. Dr. Fehmida Sultana (Dean, FASS) and Dr. Shazia Hasan (HOD, Psychology) were the respective judges for the poster competition. The moderator for the Quiz Competition was Miss. Syeda Ayesha Sheeraz (Lecturer). The Quiz Competition was won by GCU, while the Poster Competition was won by Riphah International University.
On the third day of the week, a Seminar was arranged on the theme of “Forensic Psychology”. The guest speaker for the Seminar was Dr. Rabia Iftikhar, who is an Assistant Professor at the Clinical Psychology, Unit of the Department of Psychology, Government College University. She delivered a lecture covering the basic areas and inception of Forensic Psychology along with the different theories about the core and continual of crime.
“Performing Arts Competition” was organized on the Fourth day of the Mental Health Week. Comsats and Lahore Garrison University (LGU) participated in this Intervarsity competition.
Based on the theme of “Forensic Psychology”, several mimes were portrayed by the participating universities. The Performing Arts Competition was won by Comsats University for their outstanding performance, for which they received the winner’s trophy.
The Psychology Society, being the host of the event, presented their play titled “Kyun” directed by Mr. Sheikh Ammar-ul-Haq. Along with that, The Dramatics Club, UCP presented a play named “Preet”and an unexpected stellar dance performance fascinated the audience as well.
Singing performance was presented by the Plektra Music Society, UCP. At the end of the event, appreciation shields were awarded to previous hierarchy members of the Psychology Society for their contributions to the society. The event was a great success on the Psychology Society’s part because of the amazing performances that were presented along with the collaboration of the different societies at UCP.
