University of Central Punjab’s ELC department represented Pakistan in the TEFLIN International Symposium, Indonesia. The theme of the event was: The direction of English language teaching during and post pandemic: contributions to research and pedagogy.
The presenters express that the conference was a great networking opportunity and they were able to generate new ideas on how they can endeavor to expand their skills in professional qualifications, not only in local context but at International level.
COVID-19 has redefined the future path of education. The era of Digital Natives has arrived and it is here to stay we must upskill or re-skill and not be afraid of making mistakes along the way. The symposium was a great learning experience in this regard and some of the key learnings were:
- Updating the curriculum and content according to the requirements of the blended learning approach and digitize it.
- Clear rubrics and guidelines help both formative and assessment and serve as a roadmap to success for both teachers and learners
- Norms of quality assurance in e learning are different from those of face to face learning, developing a session observation tool and sharing it with teachers in advance helps them focus on the required elements.
- Exploring all available features of the LMS and VLE and use them wisely in line with the requirements of ELT. Create Communities of Learning to share ideas and resources
- Awareness of the issues being faced by your learners. A little empathy goes a long way in motivating learners.
- Being a ‘reflective practitioner is the way to go
